Impact of Non-Governmental Organization Interventions on Economic Empowerment of Tribal Women in Gujarat

Abstract

Economic independence is an important component of empowerment, especially among the tribal women who are mostly marginalize socioeconomically. A number of NGOs in Gujarat are working towards developmental intervention for improvement of economic status of tribal women through income generating activities, present paper analyses that the impact of NGO intervention on economic empowerment among tribal women in Gujarat. The present study base on primary data collected using survey method, 196 women beneficiaries associated with NGOs were selected for the data collection from various tribal distract of Gujarat, a selfstructured questionnaire cum interview schedule design by researcher which covers various aspect such as income opportunities, saving pattern, level of income, access to credit etc. Suitable statistical tools, such as percentage analysis, frequency distribution, and Hypothesis testing were done to analyze data. Findings reveal that NGO contribution have a significant positive impact on the economic empowerment of tribal women. Actively participation in NGOs activities resulted in to the improvement in level of income, increased savings behaviour, financial patter, and greater decisionmaking capacity among the women. NGOs efforts promoting economic independence and prevent economic weakness among tribal women.
