ROLE OF COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSES IN THE PREVENTION, EARLY DETECTION, AND MANAGEMENT OF NON COMMUNICABLE DISEASES AMONG OLDER ADULTS: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Abstract

Abstract Background Population ageing has become one of the most significant demographic transitions of the twenty first century. According to the World Health Organization, the number of people aged 60 years and above is expected to double by 2050, leading to an unprecedented rise in non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and cancer account for the majority of morbidity, disability, and mortality among older adults worldwide. These chronic conditions often coexist, resulting in complex healthcare needs that require continuous monitoring, early diagnosis, preventive interventions, and long-term management. Community Health Nurses (CHNs) serve as frontline healthcare professionals who play a pivotal role in promoting healthy ageing through community-based interventions, health education, screening programmes, home based care, and chronic disease management.
